Green Tourism

Sustainability and green issues are now very much mainstream, with governments, businesses and individuals all involved. With this in mind Langley Castle Hotel has pledged it’s commitment to Green Tourism and environmental issues. That is where the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) comes in.

The GTBS is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK. Businesses opting to join are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas, like energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more.

How Our Organisation Cares

Langley uses a water purification system so to reduce the amount of recycled bottles and also reduces bottles being transported on the roads.

This system allows us to offer local water that has been triple filtered for natural clarity and taste. It also reduces the amount of glass wastage as bottles are cleaned and reused.

Energy saving light bulbs have been replaced in 65% of our light fittings, and hopes to increase to over 80% during the forthcoming year.

The Castle asks guests to re-use their bathroom towels whenever possible to reduce the amount of detergents used, Housekeeping are also trailing a range of chemical free cleaning products throughout the bedroom.

Langley recycles as much glass, paper, tin and plastics as feasible.

The entire heating system has been changed to low energy boilers that run efficiently.

Bike hire can be organised through Hexham Bike Shop so that can explore the area carbon free. Bikes could be delivered to the castle or perhaps at 'Hadrain's Wall' to take advanage of the great cycleways.

As the Castle sits in its own 10 acre Woodland estate we use all our own wood by way of logs for our log fire, we also encourage wild life to flourish within the grounds.

These are just a few of the many important things the Langley Castle Green Team are doing to help the environment and much is planned for the coming years.
